In the closing days of October, 1952, an up-and-coming cabaret singer pays a visit to a washed-up private eye on the outskirts of Chicago. What he discovers about her mild-mannered husband and his peculiar relationship with orbital bodies leads to even wilder revelations about each of them, and to a moment of truth with an unexpected visitor.
