Afrobeats is the hottest and latest genre of music AND dance that is taking the world by storm. We got a taste of it last November, as TACA, the Tidewater African Cultural Alliance presented the Afrobeat Friday: College Division Dance Off! on the main stage last year, featuring dance teams from ODU (winner), VCU, and Hampton University. We also had students from VA Beach’s Kellam and Tallwood High School treat us to special performances.
The Zeiders American Dream Theater is excited to partner with TACA this November to bring you Afrobeats FEST 757, the first of its kind featuring DANCE, MUSIC, and FILM! This time, the Dance Off! will be open to high school, college, AND the community – with cash prizes, too! We kick off the FEST with an Afrobeats Burnout class by the amazing Hurricane Ghana of NYC on Friday night Nov. 8; have the preliminaries of the Dance Off!, along with films being shown and a concert featuring some incredible talent from NYC, Boston, and the 757, including local student musicians: all on Saturday, Nov. 9! Then, we end with the finals on Sunday, Nov. 10. Come have an AMAZING time and get your Afrobeats on!
