CREATIVE TEAM KICK-OFF
Main Stage Lobby
4:00 PM
Creative teams are the heart of our festival working to create new artistic pieces in four categories: Music, Film, Theater, and Protean (a combination of disciplines). The Kick Off is the moment the teams receive the prompt that informs and inspires their new works. This year that prompt will be given through in person and virtual means. The public is invited to join us on social media to share in the excitement the Creative Team Kick Off generates for the whole Proteus Festival!

WEBWAYS: Stories of Connection, Abnormal & Sublime
by Amy Oestreicher
Through art, music, humor, and a deep love of nature, a young woman with a wild passion for life and self-discovery forms a bold, new identity in spite of relentless adversity. Through the piece, she discovers that “home” cannot be re-found, but must be re-imagined as we are liberated through the creative telling and sharing of our stories. On a webway, there’s no way in, no way out, only through. So why not laugh, dance and paint our way towards the light?
Winner of the inaugural Gail Davis Playwriting Contest. WEBWAYS will be streamed live in the Main Stage theater by the performer from Connecticut.

This year’s Proteus Festival is different from past years, just like 2020 itself. All new works will be created following the phase three guidelines put forth by the Governor. In essence, that means all creative teams will be submitting videos — not just the film teams. The Z will be providing assistance for Theater, Music and Protean teams in creating these videos. All new works will be shared on Sunday, October 11th both in person and virtually. A panel of judges will award a “best of” prize in each category and an overall “Best of Proteus Festival” prize to the work deemed to best embody the creative spirit of the festival.
