SUMMARY:Proteus New Play Festival Audience Favorite: Peace of Still
DESCRIPTION:Peace of Still\nby Sherilynn Cherry\nDirected by Donovan Mitchell \nBella\, a Pullman maid in 1928 tries to find self-worth through an illicit workplace relationship but when that relationship ends she develops a toxic connection with the “magic” of a gun. Will this newfound sense of empowerment lead her on a downward spiral or be her path to finding her value from within? \n\nJune 26\, 2025 at 7:30pm\nJune 27\, 2025 at 7:30pm\nJune 28\, 2025 at 7:30pm\n\nThe Proteus New Plays Festival showcases staged readings of 4 scripts that have been developed in the Z Playwrights Lab or by Z Artist Members. The staged readings give the playwrights an opportunity to work with a director and a volunteer cast to see their script “on its feet” for the first time\, and add the most crucial element to developing a play\, The Audience! Each reading is presented twice during Proteus Festival. Audiences have the opportunity to rate the plays via a survey focused on the elements of writing an engaging script and story. Ratings are averaged to select the PNPF Audience Favorite. The Audience Favorite receives a workshop production 2-week run in June\, closing out our 24-25 Curtain Up! New Plays Series. \nNEW PLAYS FESTIVAL SPONSORED BY \nDavid R. SUMMARY:CORE Theatre's 40 Whacks\, the nightmare of Lizzie Borden
DESCRIPTION:CORE Theatre Ensemble presents an original performance based on the infamous trial of Lizzie Borden and the brutal ax murders of her parents. \nLove lives in dreams; guilt thrives in nightmares. \nThe Lizzie Borden murder case captivated the nation over one hundred years ago and is still considered “one of the most dastardly and diabolical crimes that was ever committed.” Andrew and Abby Borden’s bodies were found axed to death in their home in August 1892; their daughter Lizzie was arrested and charged days later. The case was surrounded by a passionately divided public. The opinion of women and the extent of their capabilities fueled an intense debate concerning her guilt or innocence. Lizzie was ultimately acquitted of all charges due to circumstantial evidence\, incompetent prosecution\, and the pervading delusion that a “woman is incapable of doing so foul a deed.” \nAge recommendation: 15+\nContent advisory: Blood\, violence\, sexual situations \n40 Whacks was originally conceived and performed in 2011 in Norfolk\, VA. It has since been performed at Fêtes Internationales du Théâtre-Quebec\, The Brick Theater-New York\, and Tarptautinis Universitetinių Teatrų Forumas IUTF-Lithuania where it was awarded for Best Production and Best Performer.
