Riddick\, the Riddick Dance Company is the first African American professional contemporary dance company in Hampton Roads. The company is acclaimed for its dramatic expression\, technical mastery\, and expansive yet nuanced movements that illustrate the timelessness of the work and vision of Riddick and Marshall Swiney. The company’s repertory includes original works and new commissions from contemporary choreographers. Sat 3PM. \nSunday 11/16 at 4PM \nWhen the death of their matriarch\, Rose Nolan\, brings a blended family together\, they quickly realize funeral arrangements are the least of their unsettled business. Foremost\, oldest sister Mary needs a home\, (and a mental health evaluation). Sister Colleen has wanderlust and a bad alcohol habit. Sister-in-law Amy is in the throes of a difficult pregnancy and more difficult marriage\, and no-one understands the tension between step-siblings Grace and Robert. Set in the last days of 1999\, the Nolans endure tragedy\, a snow storm\, a contagion of car problems\, one uninvited cat\, and above all the challenge of coming to terms with what it is and what it means to be sisters. \n“Nolan’s Wake” was initially developed in Arlene Hutton’s Master Playwriting Class at The Barrow Group. See below for details on a FREE\, multi-day set of engagements! \nOct. 28 – Nov. 1: \nCommunity Ofrenda (offering/altar) in the Zeiders American Dream Theater lobby. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. As a traditional part of Dia de Muertos\, you are welcome to bring items honoring your ancestors to place in the ofrenda during the days leading up to the main events on Nov. 1. You may pick up your items that evening. \nNov. 1: \nLobby doors open at 5 p.m. for Cultural Equity Committee preshow mixer.
