DESCRIPTION:By Adam Kraar \nDirected by Maryanne Kiley \nTransporting audiences to an alternate 20th-century New York\, AS YOU LOVE IT follows a spirited young woman who concocts a daring scheme to impress her antiquarian father and the captivating actress who’s stolen her heart.\n\nAs Lydia pens a sequel to the beloved As You Like It\, her “undiscovered Shakespeare play” takes on a life of its own. Her simple forgery captivates newspapers\, scholars\, and a Broadway producer\, giving a new voice to what she loves most. This new comedy exploring the complexities of love and ambition was designated a Finalist by the American Shakespeare Center for its biennial competition for plays “in conversation with Shakespeare.” \nMay 17 at 3:00PM – Tré Porchia will play the role of CALLOW at this performance. \nMay 22 and 23 performances – Tia Collier will play the role of ELOISE. \n\nMay 24 at 3pm will be a captioned performance brought to you by Access VA.  \nOpen Captioning and Audio Description accommodations are provided by Access Virginia for May 24 at 3PM. DESCRIPTION:The jazz students of the governor’s school for the arts perform their final concert of the year with special guest artist Julius Tolentino. \nAbout Julis Tolentino\nSaxophonist and educator Julius Tolentino has been a key figure on the New York jazz scene for over 30 years\, performing with artists like Louis Hayes\, Illinois Jacquet\, the Mingus Big Band\, and Hargrove Big Band. A Hartt School graduate\, he studied under NEA Jazz Master Jackie McLean\, who connected him with Illinois Jacquet\, pivotal mentors in his journey. Since 2007\, Julius has led Newark Academy’s jazz program\, with his ensembles winning numerous top competitions. He also teaches at Princeton and Montclair State University and directs Jazz at Lincoln Center’s High School Jazz Academy. Honored with DownBeat’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Jazz Education in 2024\, Julius continues to educate through JTole Music\, offering workshops and resources to jazz students worldwide.
