SUMMARY:Dustin Furlow & Friends Farewell Show
DESCRIPTION:Dustin Furlow is an award-winning singer/songwriter and solo-guitarist whose body of work reflects an influence of today’s modern-contemporary folk artists. With comparisons to Ray LaMontagne and Gregory Alan Isakov\, his voice is earthy and unique – conjuring subtle traces of soul and Americana. Furlow eventually carved out a sound that became distinguishable by it’s marriage of complex fingerstyle-guitar work and warm\, homespun lyrics. From the foot-tapping groove of “Cherokee Lake” to the haunting melodies in “Evergreen\,” Dustin is an ambassador of dynamic control on stage and continues to grow with each album. His fourth studio album release is now in production with Kim Person (Tommy Emmanuel\, Stephen Bennett). \nIn April 2021 Dustin was announced as the winner of Scottish luthier Taran Guitars’ “Young Player Bursary” award. \nIn February 2017\, he received the Veer Magazine Music Award for “Best Acoustic/Folk Artist” in the Southeastern Virginia area. That year he also recieved nominations for “Song of the Year” (The Garden)\, and “Album of the Year” (The Sound That You Call Home). \nIn 2016\, Furlow released the full-length “The Sound That You Call Home”\, which has enjoyed airplay on NPR radio’s “Acoustic Highway”\, “Hunter at Sunrise”\, and “Out of the Box” and recieved the title of “Album of the Year” by Barry Graham of NPR’s “Acoustic Highway”. \nA year later Furlow went on to release the EP “Solo”\, which was a live-in-studio project recorded by Rob Ulsh at Master Sound Studios (Justin Timberlake\, Depeche Mode\, Gwen Stefani) in Virginia Beach. Clemens)\, brings to life the celebrated American author and humorist in this theatrical and engaging performance. In addition to sharing stories from Twain’s boyhood\, Ryan Clemens tells how Twain got his penname on the Mississippi and offers humorous insights behind his classic stories. Audiences love watching Ryan Clemens deftly transform into the varied characters of Twain’s world – his performance will show you why Twain’s wit and wisdom remain poignant and laugh-out-loud funny today! \nA Z Ticket Bank\, FREE Family Time performance provided by Arts for Learning. Funding for this performance comes from Virginia Arts and Humanities Commission\, Helen G. Gifford Foundation\, Virginia Commission for the Arts\, and National Endowment for the Arts.\n—–\nRyan Clemens is a performing and teaching artist who has written and performed as Virginia Stage Company’s Resident Theatre Artist. He has also spent several seasons performing with both the Virginia Shakespeare Festival in Williamsburg and Tidewater Stage in Virginia Beach\, and he hones his improv skills as a member of Plan B Comedy. His great passion has always been sharing the wit and wisdom of his famous relative\, Samuel L. Clemens (Mark Twain). Ryan holds a BA in Theatre from Western Washington University and an MFA in Acting from Regent University. As a theatre professor at Old Dominion University and the Governor’s School for the Arts\, he has offered his knowledge and techniques to students of the performing arts.
